Dear Dutchtown Middle Families,

Thank you for visiting our website, and welcome to Dutchtown Middle School!

We operate on a 5 block schedule, with academic blocks for ELA, math, social studies/science, PE/Electives.  We also have a daily 30-minute Homeroom.  PE/Electives are on an A-B schedule.  We value teams and students mostly work with three Core teachers (ELA, math, Sci/SS ) daily.  DMS believes that this strategy  builds cooperation, collaboration and rapport among the teachers and students throughout the school year.  

Academic learning and growth for all is our focus.  We also understand that educating students means being attentive to the “whole child” and caring about their social and emotional well-being.  With that in mind, all of students participate in our Character Strong program each week.  The curriculum for each grade level is specific to the needs of that grade level.  As a student progresses through Dutchtown Middle, they will come across different topics each year in Character Strong just as they do in the curriculum of a Core subject like English or math.  

Our teachers and staff have chosen to work with middle school-age students.  We appreciate the differences between our students and those in primary and high school and we want to be a part of their learning and growth during these crucial years of development.

Dear Dutchtown Middle Families,

We, at Dutchtown Middle,  understand that making the transition from primary to middle school can be overwhelming for both parent and student.  We are committed to providing the necessary support for your child to be successful as he or she transitions to sixth grade.

In 2019, we established the 6th Grade Academy to help ease the transition from primary school to middle school.  As students enter our 6th grade Academy, they are assigned to a specific team of teachers for their homeroom and core classes all within one building on the campus. This concept gives the students the opportunities to build positive relationships with others as they transition throughout the school day. Teachers are able to successfully identify any student who may need extra academic or behavioral support early on and intervene as needed. 

In addition, students experience the elective “wheel” whereby they spend one nine-weeks in each elective class, so students have the opportunities to explore their interests for 7th and 8th grade elective choices. I work closely with the sixth graders and their teachers to ensure our incoming Eagles have a successful school year both academically and socially.
